I never said it was cool.

My opinion is based on the amount of compliments I get.

Americans have an odd opinion of accents, they somehow think that an accent has an affect on the brain of the person, because people really take me seriously when I use a "posh" accent.

Whenever I watch American TV they speak with the same accent that I do.
Not like the southern yawl thing though, just plain old everage english.

The reasons why different accents exist in such close proximity in the United Kingdom is because for Hundreds of years we developed accents in our local areas before being introduced by Basic and lateron Mass Transit systems that allowed us to travel more.

In the USA and Canada to a lesser extent since the colonisation of both countries mass transit has been quite common accross the whole of North America so any accents that develop quickly dissapear as they are still very similar.

In Britain the accents have become embedded in locations for so a large amount of time that the language has almost become one of its own, thus is harder to dissapear.

Australian has been left off the poll list! In Australia people think I sound English (my parents are from England, and we lived there for a year when I was 4. I never completely lost the accent). When I visited England people thought i sounded Australian ...or New Zealand ... or South African. These last 2 don't sound anything like Australian, so I can only conclude that lots of English people can't place accents. What is often hilariously funny is when American TV shows need an Australian. Some of the ridiculous accents they try to pass off as Australian have the whole family ROFLing.

You are probably half and half. An accent half way between.

People,as in stupid Americans, mistake my accent for a British accent because of their ignorance.
