I travel a lot. I go on an hour long bus to my school every morning. My parents are divorced, and my dad lives two hours away. I also go and see my grandparents often, and they live an hour and a half away. So I don't flinch at car journeys, or long haul flights [my mum has to work in America sometimes and I have been to Japan twice]
I love to travel by train the most though. [I am, in fact, related to George Stephenson] This is the reason why: I always meet people on the train. I sit, and they sit opposite me or next to me, and we end up chatting. not crap stuff either. I thought I needed to talk about this because it's either very cool or very weird And it's relatively safe, too because eventually they get off or you do. In that way, however it's really sad because you only have a certain amount of time to get to know a person. here are two people I met on the train, and what I thought of them:
Malcolm
he was the same age as me. he was Irish and was going to see the Pogues, an Irish folk band. he had just randomly got on a train to escape his parents and family for a while, and was traveling to see some friends in Wolverhampton. We both changed at Sheffield so after about two ours of talking we ended up having a coffee together. he had to wait for another train and then I got on mine, and he gave me his phone number. My parents told me I had pulled when i got off.
Deep thoughts dude
i didn't ask him his name because he was older than me and I didn't want to give mine. He had got a wedding ring on and spoke about his kids. He was concerned i was traveling alone and thought I seemed older than my age [which I did give]. he was reading a manuscript he had printed off at work on philosophy and out of body experiences. When he told me this I thought he might be stoned, but he didn't seem it. then we started talking about dreams. When he got off, he said that I had had a profound effect on him and he wished me luck in my life. I just told him to keep reading and Merry Christmas.
